About Redline Coding
Hi, I'm Dante. I'm a Perth local with a background in software programming, and BMW coding is what I love doing.
It started when I wanted to customise my first BMW, and I fell in love with what these cars can do once you unlock them. Now I do the same for other owners, with the same care I'd want for my own car.
- Full backup first. Your car's factory setup is saved before anything changes.
- A programmer's eye. I understand what's being changed, not just which buttons to press.
- You only pay for what works. Your car is checked first, and nothing is charged until it's working.
Frequently asked questions
What is coding?
Think of it like a light switch. BMW reserves some features for higher trim levels or later model years, even when your car is fully capable of them. They're already in your car's software, just switched off. Coding switches them on.
We connect a laptop to the car's diagnostic (OBD) port. Nothing is added or rewired.
How long does it take?
It depends on the feature. Coding Menu features take a few minutes each, automatic heated seats about 15 minutes, and remote engine start about an hour. If you book several, we do them all in the same visit.
Do you come to me, or do I come to you?
Either. We're mobile across Perth and can do it at your home or workplace. You can also drop the car off with us. Let us know which you'd prefer when you enquire.
What do I need to provide?
Just the car and its key, with a healthy battery. For a mobile visit, please park near a standard power point, because we run a battery charger and laptop so the car's voltage stays steady while we code. Please also unplug anything connected to the OBD port under the dashboard, such as tuning dongles, trackers or insurance devices.
Before we code, please make sure the car has been driven recently, the battery isn't too old, and it hasn't been drained or left sitting for an extended period. Even with the charger connected, a weak battery can let the voltage drop mid-coding, which can corrupt a module. If you're unsure about any of these, or your car has been slow to start, please tell us before we book.
Which cars can you code?
BMWs built before March 2021 with iDrive 7. We can't code iDrive 6 or the newer curved-screen iDrive 8. From March 2021, BMW locked coding on its cars. Each service has its own list of eligible models and a checker. Pick a service above, or send us your VIN and we'll tell you what your car can have.
What if my car can't be coded?
You don't pay. We check eligibility first, and if the car won't accept the coding, there's no charge. You only pay once it's working.
Can it be undone? Is it safe?
Yes, it can be undone. We save a full backup of your car's factory setup before changing anything, so we can restore it at any time. The coding only turns on features already in your car's software. If you're concerned about your new-car warranty, check with your dealer first.
Will a BMW software update remove it?
It can. A dealer software update or a BMW over-the-air update can reset the coding. If that happens, get in touch and we'll re-code it, free within 3 months of your job.
Can you do a feature that isn't listed?
Possibly. On the quote page, tick "Other coding", tell us what you're after and include your VIN. We'll let you know if your car can have it.
Ready when you are.
Free quote, confirmed from your VIN. You only pay once it's working.
